Look through this glossary of terms to get the definition of the most widespread contraception terms.
M
Melasma is some pigmentation, usually occurring on the face of woman during pregnancy. It is usually located on the upper cheek area, on the bridge of nose area, on the areas of a forehead, upper lip.

Menarche is called the first time when menstruation occurs. Since this time and on a girl becomes able to conceive children.

Menopause
is the time in a life of every woman, when her ovaries stop to produce hormones and eggs. At the same time a woman stops to have her menstrual periods as well. Since this time and on a woman stops being fertile, in other words, she will not be able to conceive children any more. The medium age for a menopause is usually 45 – 55.

Menstrual
is anything, which has to do with menstruation or the menses. This word comes from the Latin menstrualis, from mensis, which means month.

Menstrual Cramps
are feelings of pain in the lower part of an abdomen. It usually happens during first days of the menstrual period. The reason of it is the contractions of the uterus, that it expels the contents, which it does not need; and the passage of the clotted blood through the cervix.

Menstrual Cycle
is the cycle of changes in the ovaries and the lining of the uterus, occurring every month. After that the preparation for the new egg’s production begins. When the follicle of the egg, produced breaks, it becomes released and it is available for the fertilization. The very process of egg’s release is called ovulation. If pregnancy does not occur, the cycle finished up with the shedding of part of the endometrium, which is called menstruation. It is actually considered to be the end of the physical cycle, but the first day when the menstrual blood flow begins is called the first day of the menstrual cycle.

Menstrual Flow
is the blood flow, which comes out of vagina during her menstrual period. The amount of the blood depends on a woman, as different women, have different amounts of blood, which come out. However, usually there are only three – four tablespoons of blood come out every month, all the rest is mucilage.

Menstruation
is the other term for menses; it is when a woman has her period.

Microscopic
is something extremely small, which is not able to be seen without some special device – microscope, but it may never be seen with the naked eye. All germs, viruses and bacteria are microscopic

Minipill
is one of the forms of hormonal oral methods of contraception. In order to provide protection against an unplanned pregnancy, the minipill is to be taken every day. It acts like the combination pill, but unlike it, the Minipill contains only one hormone – progestin, and there is no estrogen hormone in it.

Moisture Barrier
is the kind of a barrier, which provides protection against any liquid, fluid or wetness to get on the other side of it. People use Moisture Barriers to prevent passing of germs and viruses, which cause sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV from one person to another during oral, vaginal or anal sexual contacts. An example of a Moisture Barrier may be some plastic wrap (household), a dental dam or a non – lubricated condom.

Monogamy
occurs, if a person chooses to have sexual contacts with only one other person. There are many people, who only have sex with one partner, but if the partner has sex with other people, they both may get infected with sexually transmitted diseases.

Mucous Membrane
is a kind of a soft pink blanket, lining all natural openings in the body: the mouth, nose eyes, throat, vagina, anus, and the hole in the penis – all of them have the linings Mucous Membranes have tiny holes on them, through which a sexually transmitted disease may be transferred from one person to another.

Mucus
is a thick slippery fluid, produced by the mucous membranes. From the Latin the word “mucus” means a “semifluid”, slimy discharge from the nose.”
