Look through this glossary of terms to get the definition of the most widespread contraception terms.
P
Pain is an unpleasant feeling, ranging form mild, localized discomfort to agony. It has physical (resulting from a nerve’s stimulation) and emotional (it causes much sufferings) components as well.

Palpation
is a physical examination conducted by touching one of the pars of the body with fingers. With the help of Palpation a doctor is able to check the texture, consistency, size and location of the woman’s uterus and ovaries.

Pap – Smear
is one of the exams, a female may have to undergo in order her doctor might see if her cervix in healthy. During this exam several cervical cells are being scrapped and then they are looked at under a microscope. Unhealthy cells may be signs of some infection or of the cancer of the cervix. Each woman has to have this kind of an exam every year once she starts her menstrual period. In addition, it should also be noted, that there is nothing to be afraid of, as the Pap – Smear does not hurt at all.

Pelvic
is something, which has anything to do with the pelvis

Pelvic Exam
is a kind of a physical examination of women’s reproductive system. After a woman starts her menstrual period, she is advised to have the Pelvic Exam conducted at least one time a year. The pelvic examination includes several procedures, a woman is to undergo through: 

Pap – Smear,
which is conducted in order to see if the woman’s cervix is healthy; 

Palpation
of the uterus and ovaries in order to make sure these organs are of a normal size, consistency, texture.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
is an inflammation, which usually happens because of some infection (mostly because of some sexually transmitted infection, like gonorrhea, Chlamydia, etc) of the female reproductive organs: the uterus, ovaries, or / and fallopian tubes. This condition may lead to infertility (if it becomes chronic).

Pelvis
is the lower part of an abdomen, located between the hips.

Penetration
is any kind of sex, where penetration moment is present including vaginal sex (when a man puts his penis into the woman’s vagina), oral sex (when someone licks, sucks or puts his or her mouth on another person’s genitals), or anal sex (when someone puts the mouth or penis in someone’s anus). If no barrier method of contraception is used, penetration is a way to spread sexually transmitted diseases.
Penis is the sex organ of a man. It is located outside the body between the legs, and made of soft spongy tissue and blood vessels and has a hole on the tip of it, which is covered by a mucous membrane. Men use this hole to urinate and for the sperm to come out. If calm, Penis stays soft and small, but when a man gets excited, his penis becomes larger and stiffer or erect. If latex condom is not used during any kind of a sexual contact (oral sex, anal sex or vaginal sex) germs, which cause sexually transmitted diseases may come through the hole into and out of the organism.

Petting
is touching, or rubbing each other’s genitals or breasts without having direct sexual contact (without penetration)

Period
is the time, of the end of a woman’s menstrual cycle, when blood flow comes out of her vagina. During this time every woman has to use sanitary napkins, or tampons, which soak up the blood. Each Period lasts about 3 – 5 days, and it occurs monthly. If the period does not begin at the expected time, it can mean, that a woman is pregnant, though there are other possible reasons of it: ovaries disorder, etc. It should also be noted, that a woman can get pregnant, during the time of her period, if one more egg has been pushed out of the ovary earlier and it can be waiting for the sperm to meet it. It is also possible for a woman to be pregnant and still have her monthly periods.
