Look through this glossary of terms to get the definition of the most widespread contraception terms.
S
Safe Sex is sexual contact, which involves no chance to get sexually transmitted disease. Safe Sex occurs, if the method of contraception is used properly and it works.
Saliva is the fluid in everyone’s mouth. Most sexually transmitted diseases’ germs or viruses are absent in the saliva.

Scrotum
is the soft sac of wrinkled skin, which covers, holds and protects men’s Testicles.
Semen is clear and sticky liquid of a whitish colour, which comes out from the Penis during the ejaculation process. One drop of Semen contains about million of Sperm.

Sex
is the term, which has several definitions:
A. It is another word for gender;
B. It is a kind of activity, which causes people to have good feelings inside their bodies or genitals. This activity includes kissing, hugging, body rubbing, touching or direct Sexual Intercourse (Vaginal Sex, Anal Sex or Oral Sex).

Sexual Assault
occurs, when any unwanted or forced sexual contact between people takes place. It may be kissing, fondling, genital contact or sexual intercourse, in which either of the people, involved does not wish to take part but is not able to refuse either because of his or her age, physical abilities, intoxication, unconsciousness or fear. Sexual Assault includes even forcing some to look at the genitals of the other.

Sexual Contact
is the term, used to describe the process of being with someone in a close, physical way.

Sexual Fluids
are witnesses, which come out of a man’s or woman’s genitals. From man’s genitals semen comes out and from woman’s genitals vaginal and cervical secretions come out. Germs and viruses, which cause sexually transmitted diseases are present in the Sexual Fluid of an infected person.

Sexual Intercourse
is any activity, which involves the Penetration between two or more people. It may be Oral Sex, Vaginal Sex or Oral Sex. People can easily get sexually transmitted diseases, if they have any kind of Sexual Intercourse without a safe barrier, which works by preventing the fluids from getting from one person to another.

Sexual Orientation
is determining whether a person is a homosexual (a gay or a lesbian), heterosexual (a person, who may fall in love only and has sexual contacts with someone of the opposite gender) or bisexual (a man or a woman, who may fall in love and have sexual contacts with either a man or a woman).

Sexually Transmitted Diseases
are some specific diseases, transmitted by bacterial or viral infections, which are passed from one person to another through sexual contact. The most common viral sexually transmitted diseases are HIV, herpes. The most common bacterial sexually transmitted diseases are syphilis, gonorrhea, Chlamydia and Trichomoniasis.

Side Effects
are any problem, which may occur either in case of a treatment going beyond the expected effect or in addition to the expected effect.

Sperm
are microscopic living things, produced by men’s testicles. They look like tadpoles, with tails, which help them move. During the ejaculation process millions of semen squirt out of the penis. Sperm swim around in the semen and in the pre – seminal fluid. If any of these liquids happen to occur near a woman’s vagina or inside of it, the Sperm begin to swim around in attempts to find an egg. If it does it and gets inside of it, a woman becomes pregnant. The Sperm can stay alive in the vagina up to five days.
Spermicide is a chemical, which works by killing sperm. It is available in drug – stores without prescription as a foam, cream or jelly. It can be put either on the condom or inside a woman’s vagina. Spermicides do not protect against sexually transmitted diseases.

Sponge
is applied as one of the methods of contraception, which kills sperm. However, it only protects against unplanned pregnancy, but not against sexually transmitted diseases. A woman puts it inside of her vagina before vaginal sexual contact.

Sterilization
is one of the permanent methods of contraception. This is a simple operation, which stops egg and sperm from meeting each other. This operation can be done to a man as well as to a woman.
Still Birth occurs, if a fetus dies before or during the process of delivery.
Stroke is a sudden death of several brain cells because of the lack of oxygen, when the blood flow towards the brain gets impaired by blockage or rupture of any artery, which leads to the brain.
Symptom is a sign or a signal of some disease. Usual symptoms for sexually transmitted diseases include bumps, blisters, warts near the Genitals, burning feelings during the process of urination or dripping form the Genitals.
