Latex and latex allergy
An allergy is a reaction of the body. Allergic reaction may evident in various ways. One of the most common symptoms of latex allergy is contact dermatitis.
Latex is a material derived from the sap or “milky liquid” of a rubber tree. Many companies use latex rubber in their products. Some of these products include contraceptives, such as latex male condoms, the diaphragm and some medical devices. Contact dermatitis consists of a rash that occurs on the area of the body where the person touches latex. Swelling and itching are common signs of latex allergy.
Most male condoms and the diaphragm contain latex rubber. If you notice either penile, vaginal or rectal itching or swelling after using these birth control methods you may be experiencing latex sensitivity. If you have these symptoms, consult your doctor.
There are some types of condoms that appropriate for persons that have allergic to latex. One of the best it is lambskin condoms. They are made from the intestinal lining of lambs. But unfortunately while lambskin condoms provide protection against pregnancy, they don’t provide against sexually transmitted diseases, as latex condoms.
Also if your partner suffered on allergic to latex you may suggest to use the female condom to protect him against allergic. As the female condom is made of polyurethane, a type of plastic. And the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the female condom for pregnancy protection and to help protect against STDs, including AIDS (HIV infection).
