| The Standard Days Method | This method of Fertility Awareness woks by helping a woman figure out the days of her menstrual cycle, during which she is most likely to get pregnant. In the whole, the Standard Days Method is based on some kind of statistics, which has been collected after many women and their menstrual cycles were observed. It was discovered, that the chance of conceiving for a woman gets increased as the day of her ovulation approaches. So, when there are 5 days before the ovulation would occur, the chance for a healthy woman to conceive is only about 4%, however, two days before ovulation, it increases and become somewhere between 20 – 25%. By the day the ovulation begins, the likelihood of conceiving begins to decrease to 8 – 10%, and finally, in a day after the ovulation took place, a woman has no chance to get pregnant at all. However, it should also be pointed out, that this method of Fertility Awareness works on the consideration that a woman can only conceive in a given month for 6 – 7 days before the ovulation occurs.
As for the ovulation itself, it also takes place somewhere in the middle of the menstrual cycle. Thus, in case if a woman has a 28 – day cycle, there a 30% chance that she will have ovulation on the 14th day; 60% chance of having the ovulation one day before or after her middle cycle point, and about 80% chance that her ovulation will take place either 2 days before or 2 days after the middle of her menstrual cycle. The Standard Days Method has one definite advantage over the Calendar Rhythm Method, in which it is necessary to have a track of at least six menstrual cycles, before the ovulation days can be predicted, if the Standard Days Method is applied, it can possibly become effective from the very first menstrual cycle. It proved to work better for women, who have 26 – 32 day menstrual cycle. In accordance to it, days from 8th and up to the 19th are identified as the most fertile woman’s days. In case if a woman does not want to get pregnant, she should better abstain from having unprotected sexual relationship during these days or at least use some methods of contraception. However, in case if a woman desires to get pregnant, these days are simply the best to conceive. As for all the other days of the menstrual cycle, they are considered to be “safe”, because the chance of getting pregnant is low enough.
At is has already been mentioned, Standard Days Method of Fertility Awareness requires a woman to have regular menstrual cycles, which last between 26 – 32 days, and this is the reason why this particular type of birth control is not recommended to be applied by women, who have irregular menstrual cycles, as well as by those, whose menstrual cycles are either shorter or longer than the ones, which were specified.
Using the Standard Days Method If a woman desires to start applying Natural Family Planning kind of birth control, and if she prefers to use the Standard Days Method, first of all she will have to get to know how long her menstrual cycle is. As soon as she gets aware of this, she can start going through the process, which is described below: When the menstruation begins, a woman should mark the first day of her period as day 1 of her cycle; Beginning with the first day and up to the seventh day of her menstrual cycle (practically as long as the period lasts) any woman is in her infertile phase, where unprotected sexual contacts will not result in conception and then pregnancy. Though, is it comfortable to have sex during menstruation? Beginning with the day 8th and up until the day 19th of her menstrual cycle, a woman is in her fertile phase, when she will have to use some other birth control method, such as a condom, a sponge, etc. or abstain from sexual relationship. In case if a woman wants to get pregnant, these are the very days to try to conceive!
